What to order when you can't decide on a coffee

"Less milk" and "more foam" are useful ways to order a coffee. If you're hesitating over the menu, you can say what you'd like without remembering the drink name.

A latte is a starting point if you like a milky coffee. It combines espresso with steamed milk and a light layer of foam. A flat white usually has less milk in relation to the coffee, so the espresso is more noticeable. Its foam is fine and silky; Nespresso's flat white guide describes that balance and texture.

If you enjoy a thicker, airier layer of foam, try a cappuccino. Starbucks' comparison explains how its foam differs from a latte's lighter top.

Cup sizes and recipes vary between cafés. Ask which drink has less milk here, or ask to see the cup if you're unsure how much you'd like. You may want a small coffee now and a larger drink on another visit.

"Strong" takes a little more explanation. You might want the coffee flavour to come through more clearly, or you might want another espresso shot. For example: "I'd like to taste more coffee, but I don't need an extra shot." Less milk can change that balance without adding coffee.

A bigger cup doesn't tell you how many shots it contains. A flat white doesn't automatically have more caffeine than a latte either. Ask about the recipe if shot count matters to you.

At RASA, ask us about the drinks before choosing. Mention your preferred milk and ask what's available. Our Locations page has the Buxton and Sheffield addresses.
